Scientific Computing And Research Opportunities
 
The Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
invites applications for positions as Scientific Computing Researchers and
Scientific Computing Associates. With the world¹s highest flux reactor-based
neutron source (the High Flux Isotope Reactor) and the worlds most intense
pulsed accelerator-based neutron source (the Spallation Neutron Source),
ORNL has become the world¹s foremost center for neutron science. Research at
these facilities will encompass the physical, chemical, materials,
biological, and medical sciences and will provide opportunities for up to
2000 researchers each year from industry, research facilities, and

Fields in which Scientific Computing Researchers/Associates are required
are;
 
* Inelastic Neutron Scattering
* Single Crystal Diffraction
* Powder and Engineering Diffraction
* Reflectometry and Small Angle Neutron Scattering
 
The successful candidates will work with members of the software development
and beamline teams associated with the above subject areas.  They should
have experience with one or more programming languages such as: C, C++,
FORTRAN, Java, Python, IDL or Matlab and be comfortable working with
Microsoft Windows, Linux, or Mac operating systems. The demonstrated ability
to work both as part of a development team, as well as being able to work
independently, to efficiently accomplish assigned tasks is also required.
 
Scientific Computing Researcher‹ORNL09-94-NSSD
Qualifications: Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in one of the
physical, biological, mathematical or engineering sciences with demonstrated
experience of having developed software for use in a research environment.
This position involves a neutron scattering research component in which the
successful candidates will work closely with the neutron beamline research
teams on integrating their software development to address the needs of
on-going experiments. The research topic areas are commensurate with those
listed above.

Scientific Computing Associate‹ORNL09-93-NSSD
Qualifications: Successful candidates must have a minimum of a Masters
Degree in the physical, biological, mathematical, engineering or
computational sciences with demonstrated experience developing analysis
related software which others have used.
