The successful candidate will utilize the neutron scattering facilities at High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to develop a world class scientific research program. In addition he/she will ensure that the triple-axis spectrometers at the HFIR are capable of supporting leading edge science experiments, will advance the instrument capabilities and will support a vibrant user program.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
* Conducts world-class research using neutron scattering. The areas or research may include, but are not limited to, magnetism, strongly correlated electron systems, chemistry and materials science.
* Participates in maintaining optimum performance and operations of the triple-axis spectrometers at the HFIR.
* Develops and implements new instrumentation concepts to improve instrument performance and to maintain the world-class status of the spectrometers.
* Serves as a local contact for the triple-axis spectrometers in the ORNL Neutron Scattering User Program, and develops links with the neutron scattering user community.

* Ensures compliance with environmental, safety, health, and quality program requirements.

* Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of laboratory values and ethics.

Qualifications:
Ph.D. in any of the Physical Sciences plus postdoctoral experience and a strong background in experimental hard condensed matter physics. A well established international scientific reputation, as evidenced by a strong publications record and invitations to present work at national and international conferences. Strong written and oral communication skills and the desire to work in a team environment on technically challenging problems are required. Experience in inelastic neutron scattering is highly desirable.

Work Direction and Interfaces: Reports to ORNL's Neutron Scattering Science Division (NSSD) Triple Axis Group Leader. Works with other instrument scientists, with members of the NSSD and with the HFIR/SNS user community to define and implement other equipment and infrastructure to meet the general instrumentation needs related to the HFIR/SNS neutron scattering instruments. Directs the work of one or more postdoctoral assignees

Measures of Effectiveness:
* Works effectively in a team environment to ensure that the triple-axis instruments at the HFIR are kept as world-class instruments capable of supporting leading edge science.
* Develops good working relationships with the neutron scattering user community.
* Interacts well with the instrument scientists and other members of the NSSD and ORNL personnel.
* Establishes a strong scientific program.
