Neutrons for Catalysis:
A Workshop on Neutron Scattering Techniques for Studies in Catalysis

We are pleased to announce the Workshop on Neutron Scattering Techniques for Studies in Catalysis which will be held September 16 and 17, 2010 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. ORNL is the home of the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) making it a World premier location for performing Neutron Science. The goal of this workshop is to bring the catalysis and biocatalysis communities together with experts in neutron science to discuss, explore and develop application of neutron methods to grand science challenges in catalysis as described in the Basic Energy Sciences Basic Research Needs Workshop Report: Catalysis for Energy. Detailed information about the Workshop is available at http://neutrons.ornl.gov/conf/NandC2010/index.shtml

Technical sessions will feature both experts in catalysis and experts in the use of neutron scattering methods for probing catalysis or catalytically relevant materials. Sessions will include extensive discussion and Q&A session. There will be breakout sessions aimed to allow all participants an opportunity to explore how they might apply neutron methods address their challenges in catalysis. A tour of the SNS will be included. By the end of the Workshop, the attendees should have the vision and knowledge to prepare their own beamline proposal for performing experiments at the HFIR, SNS or other neutron science center. The presentations and a summary of the discussions will be captured in a Workshop report and the speaker's presentations will be summarized in articles to be included in a special issue of Topics in Catalysis and augmented by contributed articles. Plans will also be initiated for a related session at future American Chemical Society annual meeting.

Registration for the Workshop is free, but attendance will be limited. We encourage you to apply for attendance at http://neutrons.ornl.gov/conf/NandC2010/registration.shtml. Registration will be closed after about Aug 15, and followed by email confirmation of acceptance to the Workshop. Contact Steve Overbury (overburysh at ornl.gov<mailto:overburysh at ornl.gov>) for technical questions and Al Ekkebus (ekkebusae at ornl.gov<mailto:ekkebusae at ornl.gov>) for logistical questions.
