2 Postdoc Positions VITESS

In the framework of a German wide BMBF funded project related to
instrumentation developments for the future European spallation source
ESS we invite applications for two postdoc positions to join
corresponding efforts at the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin
(http://www.helmholtz-berlin.de).

VITESS (www.helmholtz-berlin.de/vitess) is one of the two major software
packages that will be used to simulate and optimize the ESS
instrumentation. It is written in C, but will later on also include
parts of C++. It runs on VITESS and Unix platforms; an extension to
Macintosh is planned. Improvement in both the modules simulating
instrument components and the graphical user interface will be necessary
to meet the requirements of the ESS.

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (http://www.helmholtz-berlin.de) offers two
post-doc positions for work related to the ESS. The successful
candidates will participate in the development of the VITESS software
package and perform simulations of ESS instruments or assist others in
running such simulations.
The team will work in Berlin and collaborate with the other German
neutron centres (GKSS, FZ Jülich, TUM) and the ESS. Regular visits to
the ESS data management center in Copenhagen will be necessary.

The successful candidate holds a degree in physics or a related subject
and has experience in the field of programming or neutron instrument
simulation, can conduct business in English or German and is
enthusiastic about his/her work. Experience with Macintosh computers is
especially welcome.

The appointment is for three years. Applicants should send a letter of
application, CV, copies of diploma and PhD certificates and a list of
publications to Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin, Abt. Personal und Soziales,
Hahn-Meitner-Platz 1, D-14109 Berlin, (e-mail:
personalabteilung at helmholtz-berlin.de) before 14 January, 2011 quoting
reference No. G2010/20.
For further details of the position please contact Dr. Klaus Lieutenant
(e-mail: klaus.lieutenant at helmholtz-berlin.de, phone +49 30 8062 43073)
or Dr. Klaus Habicht (e-mail: habicht at helmholtz-berlin.de).
