+++ HZB-CALL FOR PROPOSALS 1st SEMESTER 2012 +++

Dear colleagues,

The HZB user coordination invites you to submit proposals for the next joint proposal round for our large scale facilities BESSY II and BER II with beam time being allocated in the first semester of 2012 (February to July).

THE DEADLINE FOR PROPOSAL SUBMISSION IS SEPTEMBER 1, 2011, 23:59 (CET).

HZB users are asked to exclusively submit their proposals via GATE, by either choosing the Neutrons (BER II) or the Photons (BESSY II) link. Please note the guidelines “How to Apply for Neutron Beam Time" which are available in the online section User Info. Users not yet registered in our data-base will have to do so before being able to apply for beam time or to be included as a co-proposer.

Concerning HZB Neutrons

If you submitted a proposal for beam time at the HZB neutron facility BER II for the previous deadline March 1, 2011 (round 2011/II) please note that due to the delay of the restart of the BER II user operation caused by the current upgrade activities, your proposal is still under consideration, and that the Scientific Selection Panel will review your proposal during the upcoming panel meeting on November4, 2011 for allocation of beam time in the period 2012 (February to
July) (round 2012/I).

We would like to ask all proposers of round 2011/II to update their pending proposal if necessary before the end of the deadline on September1, 2011. Please choose “modify my proposal” in the OPS section of GATE and select the appropriate OPS number. The respective experimental description is available as a link under “Previously uploaded experimental descriptions”.

Important:After you have finished all changes, please use the “Next” button at the bottom of the web page until you have reached the “Upload” web page. By pressing “Submit” – even without uploading a new document (in that case please ignore the message “Your proposal is still missing the experimental
description.”) – you will finalize the changes for your proposal. In case you want to withdraw your pending proposal please delete the proposal.

New applications for beam time are submitted as usual by choosing “Write new proposal”.

With respect to all new proposals for beam time at the neutron instruments of HZB-BER II please note that for most instruments we expect a significant overload as a consequence of the currently pending proposals.
