Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PhD physicist or chemist)
Reference no. M2013/1

The Scientific Division Magnetic Materials - Institute for Complex Magnetic Materials
invites applications for a postdoctoral research assistant to work at the Small Angle Scattering Instrument (SANS) at
the BERII research reactor at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH, Germany.

The Helmholtz Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy (http://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/) is a German National Laboratory
and a member of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of National Research Centres. It hosts the Berlin Neutron
scattering centre and the Berlin Synchrotron Radiation Source BESSY, which are outstanding user facilities open to
scientist from all over the world. The Magnetism Division undertakes world leading research in quantum magnetism,
superconductivity and novel materials. It also offers a state-of-the-art materials synthesis program as well as the full
range of standard sample characterization facilities including x-ray Laue and powder diffraction, SQUID, transport and
thermal measurements.

The successful candidate will undertake research in the area of quantum materials. This will involve use of SANS for
studying novel superconductors, skyrmion lattices, and states out of equilibrium. They will also provide user service
for external scientists.

Candidates must hold a Ph. D. degree in physics or chemistry at the time of the recruitment. Very good knowledge of
solid-state physics, especially magnetism and superconductivity, is required. Practical experience in the application of
neutron scattering methods, particularly small-angle neutron scattering, is highly desirable. Good command of English is
also required.

For informal inquiries, please contact Dr. Uwe Keiderling (+49-30-8062-42339).

Applicants should send a letter of application, a detailed CV and the contact details of at least two academic referees
to the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH, Abt. Personal und Soziales, Hahn-Meitner-Platz 1,
D-14109 Berlin, Germany, (Email: personalabteilung at helmholtz-berlin.de) quoting reference no. M2013/1. The deadline for
the application is 22 February, 2013.
