About the position
The Bragg Institute has the opportunity for a suitably qualified Scientist to step up into the position of Instrument Scientist on our WOMBAT high-intensity and high-throughput diffractometer for a 12-month period.
WOMBAT is a state-of-the-art diffractometer equipped with a large 2D position-sensitive detector and is dedicated primarily to parametric investigations of powder samples, single-crystal experiments, especially of short-range order, texture measurements, and diffraction experiments under extreme conditions of temperature, pressure, magnetic field, and gas environment.
The Instrument Scientists are responsible for the development and running of neutron scattering instruments, developing the user-community and leading research.
Duties and responsibilities
* Providing scientific and technical support and advice to neutron users
* Develop relationships with user communities and ensure positive user experiences.
*         Conducting leading edge research
Requirements:
* PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or Physics or a related discipline.
* Post-doctoral experience in a relevant discipline (desirable)
* Experience of neutron scattering or synchrotron radiation (essential)
* Experience in powder and single-crystal diffraction, including data analysis thereof. (desirable)
* A track record of publication and an ability to contribute to research profiles.
Skills and Experience
"This is a great opportunity for a current or recent post-doctoral researcher to broaden their experience in collaborative neutron scattering and instrument development. We are looking for someone who can complement the present team, in terms of both the research and advice they can provide, and their communication and networking skills."
