PhD/postdoc positions in neutron scattering on energy relevant oxides

Chalmers University of Technology invites applications to one PhD and one Postdoc position. The student/postdoc will participate in projects focused on studies of structure-dynamics relationships in energy relevant, mostly hydrogen-containing, oxides, which may be applicable in e.g. next-generation solid oxide fuel cells and other electrochemical technologies, for example. The overall aim is to develop a deeper understanding of the coupling between the materials' functional properties (such as ion conduction) to their atomic-scale structure and dynamics. The primary tools to this end will involve the use of neutron scattering techniques, complemented by optical vibrational spectroscopy (including pump-probe methods), available in-house and at international large-scale neutron and free-electron laser facilities. The work will be conducted in collaboration with other research groups at Chalmers, as well as with colleagues at other universities in Sweden and in other countries. The positions are limited to a maximum of 5 years (PhD) and 2 years (Postdoc) and will support science programs funded by the Swedish Research Council. The successful candidates will be based at the Division of Condensed Matter Physics of the Department of Applied Physics.

For the PhD position, we are seeking a student with a degree in physics or a related discipline.

For the Postdoc position, we are seeking a person with a doctorate degree in an area of direct relevance for the project. A strong background in neutron spectroscopy is desirable. Experience in any or several of the following areas is considered as a merit; (i) deep inelastic neutron scattering, (ii) neutron reflectivity, (iii), pump-probe optical spectroscopy, (iv) computer simulations, (v) functional oxides.

Application procedure
Applications should be submitted electronically through Chalmers' web page [ http://www.chalmers.se/sv/om-chalmers/ledigatjanster ] and are accepted until March 17 or until the positions have been filled. The positions are referenced as 20150060 (PhD) and 20140355 (Postdoc).
