[Neutron] Production Technician to European Spallation Source (ESS)

The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Production Technician position placed in Linköping.

Description of main responsibilities and the division

The Detector group are responsible for neutron detectors on ESS instruments. As part of this we develop, commission, procure and install detector systems. These systems are a mix of commercial bought in, developments with partners, and in-house developments. The successful candidate will be a technician in one of the detector groups new state-of-the-art laboratory spaces. This is the thin-film deposition laboratory for depositing thin converter layers for the novel neutron detectors needed for ESS. As such the primary responsibility is operation of the thin-film deposition equipment. The technician will be responsible for day-to-day running of the lab, and production of thin films for both prototyping and construction of detectors and also for help building up the facility, set up procedures and quality control. Significant technical expertise will be vital to be able to provide suitable detectors for ESS.

 Qualifications

  *   Production-line experience.
  *   Prior operation of vacuum deposition equipment for thin films would be ideal, though not essential.
  *   Mechanical, fine-mechanical technical or electronics assembly work experience would be helpful.
  *   High level of manual dexterity and ability to work on precision assemblies.
  *   General high standard of technical skills with an interest to develop novel solutions.
  *   Attention to detail.
  *   Results driven.
  *   Good organisational and bookkeeping skills.
  *   Experience of working in an international environment is desirable.
  *   Fluency in either English or Swedish, and comfortable working in an English-speaking international environment.

The position is best suited to an enthusiastic technically-minded candidate who is looking to gain specialist experience in a highly technical hands-on career path. It would be expected as part of the position that new skills would be acquired, and that appropriate training would be provided to this end. The position is a two-year temporary. Your work place will be situated in Linköping, Sweden.
