The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor
(HFIR), the United States' highest flux reactor based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world's
most intense pulsed accelerator based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 30 instruments for neutron scattering
research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical
sciences for more than 3,000 visiting scientists. HFIR also provides unique facilities for isotope production and neutron

The Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research
Associate with experience and expertise in electrochemistry and neutron scattering, with a strong emphasis on the design
and characterization of energy storage materials.
This position is shared between the Neutron Data Analysis and Visualization Division (NDAV) and Chemical and Engineering
Materials Division (CEMD). This position benefits from strong interactions with the Materials Science and Technology
Division (MSTD) at ORNL and will comprise a diverse set of activities to expand capabilities for the in situ neutron
characterization of interfacial phenomena in energy storage materials.
As a member of this joint team, major responsibilities/duties will include improved design of in situ electrochemical cells,
characterization of interfacial structures at electrolyte/electrode interfaces, as well as expanding the analytical capabilities of
neutron reflectometry data. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team with expertise in neutron
scattering, development of data reduction and analysis techniques, design and synthesis of energy storage materials, thin
film growth, materials chemistry, and device fabrication and characterization. The successful candidate will also be
responsible for interfacing with MSTD for the fabrication of thin film samples used in neutron scattering studies.

Experience neutron reflectometry and neutron diffraction, knowledge of characterization techniques e.g.AFM, UV-vis and

months with a possibility of an extension of up to 12 months depending on funding and performance.
