The mission of the neutron optics and polarization team is to develop devices, techniques and methods enabling new capabilities, provide operational support for these new capabilities, to improve the performance of existing neutron scattering instruments, and
to participate in the design and commissioning of new instruments at SNS and HFIR. Our team specializes in devices and techniques for manipulating the neutron beams used by the neutron scattering instruments at the SNS and HFIR. Our research and development
interests fall into three topical areas: controlling the phase space configuration of the neutron beam, developing new neutron polarization techniques, and Larmor labeling methods.<br>

In this role you will serve as the lead technical contact on projects and proposals using and developing polarized neutron techniques and devices. You will have the opportunity to work closely with members of Instrument Methods, Projects and Technologies Group

The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), the United States’ highest flux reactor-based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world’s most intense pulsed
accelerator-based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 30 instruments for neutron scattering research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical sciences for more than 3,000
