the physical, chemical and biophysical sciences, including energy research, catalysis, nanoscience, soft matter and biophysics. They are part of the instrument suite of the ISIS Molecular Spectroscopy Group that develops and operates a set of cutting edge
neutron spectrometers; key tools to access structure and dynamics ranging from diffusion and rotation, phonon or bond vibrations and quantum effects.

<p><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black">We are looking for a highly motivated and independent full time Instrument Scientist to support and develop the science and instrumentation programme on the backscattering neutron
spectrometers Iris and Osiris, especially in the areas of soft matter or biophysics research. The position represents an excellent opportunity to develop both collaborative and personal scientific research programmes, and to contribute to the development of
new capabilities at ISIS relevant to the instruments (new instrumentation, novel sample environment devices, advanced data analysis capabilities). You will interact extensively with visitors from higher education institutions as well as from industry. These
duties on both Iris and Osiris will require you to work alongside and train these visitors to perform experiments and assist with data analysis and interpretation, and publication of results. You are expected to represent and actively work on expanding the
user base of the instruments. Externally, you will be expected to present your own scientific work at conferences, strategically engage with stakeholders, and delineate future directions in science and facility development. Internally, you will be expected
to contribute to the wider activities of the Molecular Spectroscopy Group and actively represent the group in its interactions with other ISIS and STFC science and technology groups.</span><o:p></o:p></p>
