The Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering & National Deuteration Facility leads Australia in the user of neutron scattering techniques to solve complex research and industrial problems in many important fields. The Institute consists of the neutron and X-ray scattering labs associated with the OPAL nuclear research reactor and the National Deuteration facility where bio- and chemical-deuteration services are available.
The Institute aims to provide 200 days of user beamtime to each of its 7 operating neutron instruments covering: high-intensity or high-resolution powder diffraction, Laue diffraction, strain scanning, neutron reflectometry, small-angle neutron scattering and thermal 3-axis spectrometry. A further 6 instruments are in commissioning or construction and will be operational in 2013-14.
