Oak Ridge National Laboratory Neutron Sciences

High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and Spallation Neutron Source (SNS)

ORNL: HFIR aerial 2011 ORNL: SNS-HFIR

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory Neutron Sciences Directorate is home to two advanced neutron scattering research facilities: the High Flux Isotope Reactor and the Spallation Neutron Source, an accelerator-based source. The main goal for these facilities is excellence in science. Through reliable operation and continual development, we strive to capitalize on two of the world’s highest-flux neutron beams, one pulsed and one continuous. In addition to supporting the user community, we reach out to the scientific community to educate current and future scientists about the benefits of using neutron scattering for their research.
