Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) operates neutron scattering instruments at leading national and international sources and makes them available for external researchers: at the FRM II research neutron source in Garching, Germany, at the high-flux reactor at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, France, and at the first megawatt-class (MW) spallation source, SNS, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA. In addition, JCNS serves as the organizational framework for Forschungszentrum Jülich’s globally-recognized development programme for methods and instruments, as well as for its own research programmes focused on “correlated electron systems and nanomagnetism” and on “soft matter and biophysics”. In these areas of expertise, JCNS offers expert support on world-class instruments with a specialized sample environment and ancillary laboratory access to external users.
Forschungszentrum Jülich pursues cutting-edge interdisciplinary research addressing pressing issues facing society today, above all the energy supply of the future. With its competence in materials science and simulation and its expertise in physics, nanotechnology and information technology, as well as in the biosciences and brain research, Jülich is developing the basis for the key technologies of tomorrow. Forschungszentrum Jülich helps to solve the grand challenges facing society in the fields of energy and the environment, health and information technology. With almost 5000 employees, Jülich – a member of the Helmholtz Association – is one of the large interdisciplinary research centres in Europe.
