Swiss Spallation Neutron Source (SINQ)

PSI picture 2 PSI Logo

The spallation neutron source SINQ is a continuous source – the only one of its kind in the world – with a flux of about 1014 n/cm2/s. Beside thermal neutrons, a cold moderator of liquid deuterium (cold source) slows neutrons down and shifts their spectrum to lower energies. SINQ is an open access user facility. Interested groups can apply for beam time on the various state-of-the-art instruments for neutron diffraction, spectroscopy, small angle scattering, reflectometry and imaging by using the SINQ proposal system.

  • Location: Villigen, Switzerland
  • Proposal deadlines: May 15, November 15
  • Operating cycles (from-to): typically May 1 – December 23
