Progress and competitiveness depend significantly on new materials and new technologies. The characterization of these materials and also the optimizing of technologies strongly demand sophisticated methods, some of them uniquely available at “Large Scale Facilities” using neutrons or synchrotron radiation

The two-year Master’s program “Materials Science Exploring Large Scale Facilities (MaMaSELF)” starts in 2014. MaMaSELF is part of the EU Erasmus Mundus program – at least once relocation to another major research institution is mandatory. The partner institutions are distributed all over Europe. So there are many opportunities to implement this requirement, one is the neutron source FRM II. Application requirement is a bachelor’s degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, earth sciences or related disciplines. Instruction language at all partner sites is English, so good knowledge of English is essential.

Obtain two master degrees from two different universities (Rennes, Munich – LMU or TUM, Turin, Montpellier) with one MSc course
Summerschool on Neutron and Synchrotron Techniques in Montpellier
Partner institutions in USA, Japan, Switzerland, India, Russia
Additional EU-Grants: 9.000 Euros for EU students and 22.000 Euros for Non-EU students.
