The first edition of the International Interdisciplinary Event “Science for Life” 2015 will be held from 20th to 25th of May 2015 in Lampedusa, a fascinating Sicilian island (Italy) (http://scienceforlife2015.unime.it).

Such event, with a strong symbolic meaning, will mark the “baptism” of Lampedusa as Capital of Science and Peace and will represent the foundation stone for the building of the International Center for Interdisciplinary Studies “Science for Life”, a place devoted to the meeting among cultures, sciences and worlds in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea.

“Science for Life” will be a meeting where, in addition to scientific sessions, relevant and topical issues of social interest in the context of “Science and Society” will be addressed.

The third edition of the Third International Workshop “BIONEUTRON 2015: Neutron Scattering Highlights in Life Sciences” will be held in the framework of the “Science for Life” event.

“Science for Life” will strongly encourage the participation of young researchers, being held in connection with the First International School “Spectroscopic Techniques Applied to Life Sciences”, which will be held from 20th to 22nd of May 2015.

The students will attend the whole event, held from 20th to 25th of May 2015, including all the workshop sessions as an integral part of the school. Students are strongly invited to submit their abstracts for oral or poster contributions which will be published in a volume with ISBN code. The related papers will be published in a special issue of an international journal.

For the students the registration includes: the participation in workshop sessions, the hotel stay for 5 nights from 20th to 25th of May 2015, Welcome cocktail, mid-morning and afternoon coffee-breaks, lunches and dinners, gala dinner, special events, excursions, abstract book and conference proceedings.

Please note that, in some special case, a financial support for young participants can be provided.

We would greatly appreciate if you can encourage your students to attend the School and the whole event.

We are glad to inform you that the deadlines for both the abstract submission and the early registration have been postponed to the 3rd of May 2015.

It is a great honour to inform you that the Science for Life project will be managed in partnership with the O’Scia’ Foundation, which was created in the summer of 2003 by the Italian songwriter Claudio Baglioni with the aim to promote cultural integration between different people and ethnic groups, through two universal languages such as art and music and to awaken Italian and European institutions, politicians, media and public opinion to the necessity of defining policies able to assure stability, safety, peace and development for all of the Mediterranean and European countries.

In ten years only, O’Scia’ has become the most important European musical and social event, thanks to the involvement of more than three hundred great Italian and International artists, the patronage of leading institutions, non-governmental organizations and international agencies – such as UNHCR and Amnesty International – and a very special support by media and public.

So far the patronage to the event has been granted by: the European Parliament, the Minister of the Foreign Affairs and the International Cooperation, the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, the French Embassy in Italy – Services for Science and Technology and the National Research Council of Italy.

The preliminary scientific programme of the event has been published in the “Programme” page in the official website: http://scienceforlife2015.unime.it. Please note that you can still ask for an oral presentation if you like.
